The first phase of the development of a luxury hotel, originally a 17th century hunting lodge, located in the middle of the New Forest has been completed.

Following extensive engagement with The New Forest National Park Authority, the sole planning authority for the New Forest, Childs+Sulzmann obtained consent for an additional 36 new rooms, a children’s playbarn and a 60 seat vinery. The first phase comprises 4 luxury suites and the children’s restaurant.

“As the New Forest is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it is essential for any new development to harmonise completely with the surroundings. Our experience in working in sensitive environments enabled us to meet the clients brief whilst completely satisfying the authority’s very specific requirements,” notes Nick Childs, Design Director, Childs+Sulzmann.

Childs+Sulzmann employed a traditional architecture of timber and brick and formed the new rooms in complex roof shapes to minimise the impact of the new structures. Generous openings and huge dormer windows generate a dramatic connection to the surrounding forest.
